Terms of Service

1. Service description

Sociora is a free-to-use operating platform for university societies. It helps committees and members plan events, manage memberships, coordinate tasks, share updates and, where enabled, run competitions and live tournaments. Sociora does not process deposits, withdrawals, wagers, prize pools or cash settlements. Optional integrations with third-party services such as email providers, Discord, Google Calendar or identity providers are offered for convenience and may be enabled or disabled by a society at any time.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to create an account or administer a society. University society members may use the service only for lawful, non-commercial activities related to their society. Sociora reserves the right to request proof of affiliation with a recognised university or society.

3. Accounts and security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised use. We support password, email verification code and OAuth login methods. You should keep your recovery options up to date.

4. User conduct

  • Do not harass, abuse, discriminate against, or impersonate other users.
  • Do not use the service for real-money gambling, betting or any unlawful activity.
  • Do not attempt to manipulate results, standings, registrations or event data.
  • Do not share accounts, credentials or access tokens with others.
  • Do not upload content that infringes intellectual property rights or contains malware.
  • Do not scrape, spam, overload or interfere with the platform or other users.

5. Society organisers

Society owners, admins and committee members are responsible for the accuracy of event information, fair competition administration, correct results, and compliance with their university rules and applicable law. Sociora provides tools but does not run events, competitions or tournaments on behalf of societies. Organisers must obtain any necessary approvals, licences or consents from their university or members before using the platform.

6. User content and intellectual property

You retain ownership of content you upload, such as society logos, event covers, descriptions and messages. By uploading content you grant Sociora a limited licence to host, display and process it solely to operate the service for your society. You represent that you have the right to share that content and that it does not violate any third-party rights.

The Sociora name, logo, visual design, code and documentation are owned or licensed by the legal operator that will be identified in the final published terms and are protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute or create derivative works of the platform without our written permission.

7. Third-party integrations

Sociora may connect to third-party services chosen by a society. These services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Sociora is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, security or practices of third-party providers. Enabling an integration may involve sharing limited society or event data with that provider; the society organiser is responsible for reviewing and accepting the provider terms before enabling the integration.

8. Service changes and availability

We may update, modify or discontinue features, integrations or the service as a whole at any time, with reasonable notice where practicable. We aim to minimise disruption, but the service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access or that the service will be free of errors.

9. Data export and account termination

Society owners may export event, membership and result data in common formats from the workspace settings. If an account or society is terminated, we will retain data only for the periods described in our Privacy Policy and applicable law, after which it will be deleted or anonymised. You may request deletion of your personal data by contacting us at the address below.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts or societies that violate these terms, harm the community, or where required by law. You may close your account at any time from your account settings. Termination does not affect accrued rights or obligations, including those relating to data retention and liability.

11. Limitation of liability

The final limitation-of-liability clause will identify the legal operator and will take effect only when the final terms are approved and published. No placeholder entity is presented as a contracting party in this draft.

12. Governing law and dispute resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of the service shall first be attempted to be resolved informally by contacting us. If the dispute cannot be resolved informally, it shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

13. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms from time to time. The current version will always be published on this page with the "Last updated" date. Material changes will be notified by email or through the service where practicable. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
